Andres Duany in Athens
Thursday, March 8th, 2012
5:30pm – 6:30pm, 171 UGA Miller Learning Center
Reception: Founders Garden House, 7:00pm
Andrés Duany, world-renown architect and urban designer, will be in Athens next week for a lecture sponsored by the UGA College of Environment and Design. Titled, "The Surprising 21st Century", this lecture will address current challenges of urban design and planning with a particular emphasis on the issues of sprawl.
Dean Dan Nadenicek explained that Duany’s visit to Athens is very timely given recent proposals to build new commercial buildings near downtown at the old Armstrong and Dobbs site. “Duany will help us re-focus the dialog on the need for good quality design,” he added.
The public is encouraged to attend. Parking is available at the Tate Student Center parking deck, next to the Miller Learning Center. The Founders Memorial Garden, where the reception will be held, is a short walk up Lumpkin St.
